Bella Bathrooms is a well-established UK bathroom retailer with a large product catalogue spanning baths, showers, taps, tiles, and accessories. The store runs on Magento 2 a powerful platform for e-commerce at this scale, but the existing frontend theme was creating a significant and measurable problem: the site was critically slow.
A Google PageSpeed Insights audit told the story clearly. Desktop performance scored just 36 out of 100 in the red zone. Mobile performance was even worse at 22 out of 100 a score that Google classifies as poor and that directly impacts both search rankings and conversion rate. The site had strong SEO fundamentals but its speed issues were undermining the commercial value of that organic presence.
The root cause was the existing Magento theme built on the traditional 3rd party theme that relies heavily on RequireJS, KnockoutJS, and jQuery. For a large catalogue site like Bella Bathrooms with hundreds of products and rich content pages, this stack creates an enormous amount of JavaScript overhead, page weight, and render-blocking resources that cannot be resolved through standard optimisation techniques alone.

Full PageSpeed Insights and Core Web Vitals audit conducted across key page types homepage, category pages, product pages, and checkout.
